Salvation - The Gospel Message of Jesus Christ our LORD
NEW BOOK DEALS WITH STARTLING INFORMATION
GATHERED BY GALLUP POLLS CONCERNING AMERICAN CHRISTIANS
“Americans are as God-loving, churchgoing and Bible-believing as ever. But–and it’s a big one–their brand of faithfulness is a mile long and an inch deep”...”God is important but not primary in people’s lives”...”Despite religion’s continuing and widespread appeal, Americans are ignorant about doctrine, inconsistent in their beliefs, superficially faithful, and lacking trust in God”–Dallas Morning News article, “Gallup Says America Has Shallow Faith”, December 11, 1999.
The above quote is from an alarming article that appeared in the Dallas Morning News which discusses information gathered by Gallup polls concerning American Christians. If you are a Christian, are you one of the above statistics?
Now a new book, SALVATION–The Gospel Message of Jesus Christ our LORD has been released by Harry Wilson. It offers Christians another alternative other than being a Gallup statistics. This book is all about faith and is under constant examination throughout. One whole chapter is devoted to faith. By the time one finishes this book they know whether their faith is genuine or shallow. Many Biblical examples are given of those, who through faith, avoided falling into the above category. These models are presented as patterns of how we should live and walk.
Mr. Wilson’s book also appeals to non-Christians and thoughtfully analyzes Christ’s message of salvation and the road that one must travel to gain it. Fundamental doctrine such as repentance, faith, baptism, and the reward of the saved are thoroughly explained. In addition, he introduces his readers to some little emphasized words and phrases that are found in the Bible. He helps us understand their importance in relationship to salvation and connects the following subjects to the gospel message of Jesus Christ.
Luke 1:68-79 (the book’s theme scripture)
The blessing promise
The significance of the name of the LORD–YHWH
Faith
Calling upon the name of the LORD
The New Covenant
The phrase “I will their God and they shall be My people”
The phrase “the planting of the LORD”
Because these subjects are so intrinsically linked to the gospel message, you will find this book an eye-opening and worthwhile reading. The author’s original intent for writing his book was strictly personal. It was designed to be an avenue to access, and benefit from, certain Biblical subjects that he spent many years researching. He found these subjects basic to his everyday walk of faith. From that point of view this book is an individualistic expression and is further communicated by his personal testimonies. Now he would like to share this knowledge with others in hopes of communicating useful information.
SALVATION–The Gospel Message of Jesus Christ our LORD has an attractive cover and well designed interior. Its seven chapters cover 269 pages. Many references are used to complement his findings. Both Christians and non-Christians will be captivated by an unusual and fresh presentation.
Sexual Morality
One of the greatest gifts that God has given to mankind is sex, it is ordained of God, and in its intended use is good, holy, and righteous. As with all things, it can be misused and become an instrument of selfishness, perversion, and unrighteousness, and as such, a tool of Satan. God uses the misuse of sex (sexual immortality) as a metaphor of spiritual adultery and idolatry. We’ve already discussed, and are aware, that sexual morality and immorality are Biblical themes. We need to develop them further and completely understand their physical and spiritual counterparts, and especially why sexual morality (physical and spiritual) is so beneficial and brings tremendous blessings.
First of all, let’s define sexual immorality from a Biblical point of view. To do this, we need to comprehend the meaning of sexual morality. Basically, sexual morality only defines two groups of people: sexually inactive singles (virgins) and married couple who are faithful to one another in the sex relationship. All other sex can be defined as sexual immorality. That includes: self abuse, fornication (premarital sex), same sex, and adultery (sex in marriage with someone other than your mate). It also includes any perverted variation of the above such as incest, pedophilia, sodomy, bestiality, pornography, and orgies (group sex among married couples and/or unmarried singles). The world around us is full of such examples. There is a high rate of sexual immorality in our society, and most of us either know someone involved or have been personally affected by the misuse of sex. It is exploited in our news and entertainment media. Every area of our society has been affected–our political and religious leaders, sports and entertainment personalities, friends, family, and next door neighbors. The point here is not to judge and condemn, but on the contrary, to offer hope. It must be made plain, that a converted Christian, no matter what his past may have been, is consider pure and clean in the eyes of God and escapes the spiritual condemnation and penalties that result from such practices. It does not always allow one to escape the physical penalties as defined by law. God offers mankind great hope and freedom from such captivities. These things are tangible. Please read 1 Cor 6:9-11. The fact that sexual immorality is a captivity is an identifier to us of the source of that captivity–Satan who use it as a snare. CLICK HERE TO READ MORE
Who Is YHWH?
In the King James version of the Old Testament, the word “LORD” (all caps) comes from the original Hebrew word YHWH and is translated: “self-Existent or Eternal,” although its exact meaning and derivation are unknown.6 In like manner, the word “Lord” (initial cap) comes from the Hebrew word “Adonai” which translates: “God, my Lord” (Strong’s Concordance and from Nelson's Illustrated Bible Dictionary, NAMES OF GOD). The word Adonai was also used to identify men in a position over other humans, who were their “masters” and “lords”.
It became an Old Testament practice of the Hebrews not to pronounce the name of YHWH (LORD) in fear they might misuse and blaspheme it, “Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD in vain”. They achieved this by dropping the vowels; what remained were the consonants YHWH. Whether directly or indirectly, the vowels and their placement were lost, this carried over in all the manuscripts and thus affected the translation of the Old Testament. Instead of saying His name, they used the name Lord (Adonai). Not until the Middle Ages was an effort made to correctly spell and pronounce His name. Vowels from the word Adonai were inserted to the consonants YHWH and the words Yahweh and Jehovah emerged. Some of the newer translations of the Bible substitute these names in place of LORD.7
As I said, the true meaning of the word YHWH is unknown. The Hebrews have connected it with the word hayah, "to be." Thus emerged the derivations “Self-Existent or Eternal,” "I am that I am," and "I will be what I will be." While not knowing the exact meaning, the important thing to remember is that Jesus has been made both LORD (YHWH) and Christ. These are two different offices but often share the same function, and will be addressed in our next chapter. CLICK HERE TO READ MORE
